Reasons To Own A Wooden Boat
Many people are afraid to own a wooden boat...
They don't know why...they just heard it was a bad Idea
Probably due to the propaganda from the plastic boat people.
I love wooden boats, and would never own anything else!
Aside from being superior in structure and craftsmanship,
you can tell they are alive...
Its also nice to turn a few heads once in a while.

Some people want to "glass over" the hull.  Wood needs to breath.
Because its alive, it moves and changes all the time.
This is incompatible with a plastic skin.
Imagine if you will a weak area that becomes larger and larger, and your sitting at the boatyard with this false sense of security...
never knowing what lies beneath that hard plastic coat.
Then one day....your swimming in 4-6' swells wearing yellow pfd's and hoping your epirb is working.

To appreciate the beauty of a classic wooden boat,
you have to live with it.  It takes some of you and
gives more back.  The more love you give her,
the more rewarding the returns.  Its art...in progress!

Our 65 year old boat is a fine example of what I'm saying.
She is a very sound sailing vessel.
She's been around the world twice!
Her hull is original, and has never needed any major repair.
We haul her out once a year and give her a new coat of paint.
Her planking is 4inches thick.

Don't be afraid.  If you're a true sailor...you won't be.
Try this... next time you're on the water,
drop a 1/4 inch thick piece of plastic in next to a chunk of wood.
Which one floats?
Which would you want your boat to be made out of?
Come visit us and tap on some wood.
You'll look at wooden boats differently, for sure!
